I loved these true stories by comedian Trevor Noah. His conversational writing style is so easy to read and, not surprisingly, very funny. Trevor's birth literally was a crime in his home country of South Africa. His mother is black and his father is white, which at the time, made it illegal for them to have a child together. For the first several years of Trevor's life, his mother had to keep him a secret from the authorities. As the system of government changed in South Africa, he did not have to hide anymore, but the racial situation in South Africa became very complex, and as a mixed child, he did not really fit in with any of the racial groups. The stories in this book are funny, heartbreaking, and important, especially as we deal with our own issues of race in the United States.
