Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline

This is a great story about a girl named Molly who is in foster care and needs to do community service for the crime of stealing a library book (gasp!).  She ends up helping 91-yr-old Vivian clean her attic, which is filled with boxes of memories. As they work, Molly learns about Vivian's life in the 1920's as an orphan sent out West to be "adopted." The stories of Molly and Vivian alternate throughout the book, filled with history, heart-breaking stories, and many similarities. Molly and Vivian bond in a beautiful way. I highly recommend this story!
