While Radley is volunteering in Haiti, the United States falls into chaos: the president is assassinated, the government cracks down, travel is restricted, people are terrified by vigilantes, police raids, and looting. She flies home to Vermont but when no one meets her at the airport, Radley walks for days only to find her house abandoned. In fear, she walks to Canada, joining another girl as they head north, hiding from people to stay safe.

This is a frightening story about what can happen when our social structure fails, but is also a beautiful story about inner strength, kindness and the beauty in nature.
